THE UNIVERSITY OF AUCKLAND RECREATION CENTRE - Climbing wall Experience the most adventurous workout you can have indoors on our state-of-the-art climbing wall. Please note the climbing wall is closed until further notice. Features Over 150 square metres of climbing surface. An abundance of natural features. A nine-metre vertical section. Large overhang feature. A variety of routes to cater for everyone—from the first-timer to the seasoned pro. You can use the climbing wall to boulder, top rope and lead climb. Registration class If you want to use the climbing wall, you must attend a registration class to become certified. Due to safety precautions, you won't be allowed to use the wall if you are not certified. You can book these classes on the computer booking terminals. The classes are free for members.

HANGDOG INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING CENTRE - HangDog is all about climbing and climbing related activities (like abseiling). We have a great indoor climbing centre located right next to highway 2 in Lower Hutt. Our 14m high walls are awesome. For a rookie they can look fearsome and for the serious climbers they look like an impressive challenge. Check out the picture of the wall called "Bones" (for obvious reasons). Our walls are covered in over 70 climbs suiting the complete beginner right up to the serious pro (we usually have some routes higher than grade 28).

FERG'S ROCK & KAYAK - Fergs Kayaks Wellington is the proud owner of New Zealand's largest real rock wall. With 13 metres of vertical possibility and top ropes covering climbs from the most basic level to tricky overhang problems, this place serves up something for everyone. But it doesn't stop there, as well as our excellent top rope facilities we offer lead climbing routes and bouldering problems. We endeavour to change climbing routes regularly, so if you climb often you will have new challenges.

VERTICAL LIMITS LIMITED - Why not try climbing at our indoor climbing centre. From 5 yrs old and upwards we have a climb to suit all levels and abilities. If you're new to climbing our staff will run you through a short safety briefing and train you up with the basic skills required to climb safely. The centre contains 700 square metres of fully textured climbing surface and the climbing wall is 11 metres in height and has a 15 metre overhang. There are over 100 climbing routes. Monday to Thursday, excluding public holidays, 3pm. to 9 pm. Friday 12 - 5 pm, Sat 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sun 12 - 4pm. Special bookings can made by arrangement. During the School Holidays we are open from 12, but we close at 6pm on Mondays. We are closed on public holidays (unless it is raining)

SPORTS SCIENCE & RECREATION SERVICES - The Centre's Climbing Wall is very popular with students. Rated as one of the countries top three climbing walls by New Zealand Adventure magazine, this wall features a wide variety of climbing challenges. This includes a slab, two overhangs, and abseil platform and a curved overhanging "cave" section. The wall is constructed with a rock coat surface, incorporating cracks and features as well as more conventional holds. This provides you with the most realistic indoor climbing experience available. Climbing grades vary regularly, so as to provide a constantly challenging climbing experience. Routes range from beginner to experienced.

BASECAMP WANAKA CLIMBING CENTRE - Is the South Islands newest climbing gym with indoor and outdoor walls. Based in Wanaka, New Zealand in the midst of the Southern Alps, the scenery couldn't be better. Perfect for an outdoor climbing wall. We have 21 challenging lines on the outside of the building that make you feel like you are really out there, right down to the view of the mountains when you look over your shoulder. The entire outside wall is leadable with grades up to 26. But, if being on the sharp end isn't your style we have top ropes outside as well. If the weather comes in, just retreat to the warmth of inside and keep on climbing. Have a play on our large roof if you think you can get there or just hang out on the wall.

CLIMBING NEW ZEALAND - Climbing New Zealand is the national governing body administering the sport of climbing in New Zealand. This includes bouldering, lead climbing and speed climbing. We are a non-profit incorporated society which is run by a group of volunteers. Climbing New Zealand is a proud and founding member of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC). We play an active role in the international arena. Every year Climbing New Zealand runs a series of competitions around the country, including the National Cup Climbing series, National Championships. Bi-annually, Climbing NZ also hosts the Oceania Championships. This event includes all other member nations of the IFSC that reside in the Oceania region. Our main competition comes from Australia.
